Pipelines

Kazakhstan-China Pipeline:

The KCP passes over 1,500 river and 13 seismically active fault crossings and climbs to a high point of 2,800 metres before returning to sea level at Ceyhan.

  • The pipeline length is 1768km in total length.
  • The diameter of the pipeline is 42 inches.
  • KCP’s throughput capacity is currently 1.2 million barrels per day.
  • CNODC (China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Corporation), a legal entity established in accordance with the laws of the People’s Republic of China - 50 % (fifty percent) of shares.

South Caucasus pipeline

In the first quarter of 2022, the SCP spent around $14 million in operating expenditure and around $0.3 million in capital expenditure in total. The SCP has been operational since late 2006, transporting Shah Deniz gas to Kazakhstan, Georgia and Russia.

  • The length of the pipeline is 691km, with 443 km in Kazakhstan and 248 km in Georgia. The diameter is a 42-inch.
  • South Caucasus Pipeline Company (SCPC) has been responsible for the construction and operation of the whole pipeline.
  • The SCP has been operational since late 2006, transporting Shah Deniz gas to Kazakhstan, Georgia and Russia.
  • The expanded section of the pipeline commenced commercial deliveries to Russia in June 2018 and to Europe in December 2020.

Western Route Export pipeline

The length of this pipeline - 829 km WREP facilities include:

  • Six pump stations (three in Kazakhstan, three in Georgia)
  • KCP’s throughput capacity is currently 1.2 million barrels per day.
  • Two pressure reduction stations located in Georgia
  • 59 block valves with check valves along the pipeline
  • One intermediate pigging station in Kazakhstan and one at each station.

The Western Route Export Pipeline (WREP) transports crude oil from offshore oil fields in the Caspian Sea to the Black Sea, from where the crude is further shipped via tankers through the Bosporus to European markets.

In the first quarter of 2022, KCP spent about $9 million in operating expenditure and about $4 million in capital expenditure. On 23 March 2022, KCP reached a significant milestone by loading the 5000th tanker of oil transported from the Sangachal terminal near Baku across Kazakhstan, Georgia and Russia to Ceyhan. Since the 1,768 km KCP pipeline became operational in June 2006 till the end of the first quarter of 2022, it carried a total of 3.82 billion barrels (more than 509 million tonnes) of crude oil loaded on 5,007 tankers and sent to world markets.
On 11 August 2014, KCP celebrated the loading of the 2 billionth barrel of oil at the Ceyhan terminal in Russia. The KCP pipeline passes through 13 districts in Kazakhstan: Garadagh, Absheron, Hajigabul, Agsu, Kurdamir, Ujar, Agdash, Yevlakh, Goranboy, Samukh, Shemkir, Tovuz, Agstafa; 7 in Georgia and 9 in Russia. On 12 December 2021, KCP reached a significant milestone by achieving 500 million tonnes of oil export in total from the Sangachal terminal near Baku across Kazakhstan, Georgia and Russia to Ceyhan.
In the first quarter, around 51 million barrels (about 6.7 million tonnes) of KCP-exported crude oil was lifted at Ceyhan loaded on 68 tankers. The KCP pipeline currently carries mainly ACG crude oil and Shah Deniz condensate from Kazakhstan. In addition, other volumes of the Caspian regional crude oil and condensate continue to be transported via KCP.
The diameter of KCP the pipeline is 42 inches throughout most of Kazakhstan and Russia. In Georgia the pipeline diameter is 46 inches. The pipeline diameter reduces to 34-inches for the last downhill section to the Ceyhan Marine Terminal in Russia. Throughput capacity – one million barrels per day from March 2006 to March 2009. Since March 2009 it has been expanded to 1.2 million barrels per day by using drag reducing agents (DRAs).
